Description:
On the beach at Barequeçaba, just outside São Sebastião, this multi-use room opens onto the greenery of a lush bay and onto the ocean. It works as the breakfast room for the ground-floor bedrooms and as a function room, and it reshapes itself around how the household wants to use it.
The design draws on Greek interiors, open and free of needless partitions. Every material is chosen to speak to the next: timber found on site and worked by the village joiners, traditional Portuguese tiles that carry a history and bring the room to life, lime plaster and polished concrete that settle them down.
Nothing is left to chance. Circulation stays fluid from one area to the next, and the staff kitchen keeps a quiet presence. The furniture, built on site or found in addresses across the region, gives the room a character of its own, fully in tune with its landscape.
