Magazine exposure

This side table works at a modest scale to rethink the relationship between display and storage. The central piece, in raw pine, holds books that get swapped out as reading moves on, titles in progress or waiting their turn.

At the back, a wide slot takes magazines on either side and lets several threads of reading be tied together. The edges are left raw at ninety degrees, giving a plain, orthogonal drawing that lets the books take the centre and eases the eye.

The shell, screwed together and then painted, is made of fibreboard: any worn part can be replaced on its own, without rebuilding the whole table.
